Innovation doesn’t happen in isolation or behind closed doors at Addepar. It shows up in the platform our teams build every day, and in how that platform helps financial professionals navigate increasingly complex portfolios with clarity and confidence. That work takes center stage at our R&D Demo Day.
What began seven years ago as an “internal AddeConf” in the US only has grown into a global moment for our engineering, product, design and data teams to share what they’re building and how it translates into real-world impact for our clients. This year, we hosted our first regional Demo Day in Edinburgh, Scotland bringing together teams from across the organization for a full day of live demos, discussion and hands-on exploration.
Demo Day moves beyond a standard status update to focus on our culture of “show, don't tell,” celebrating the hard work behind our innovations. The format is simple by design. Short morning pitches set the context; why the work matters and what problems it solves. The afternoon is reserved for live demos, where teams walk through their working solutions in detail. No slides, no scripts, just the platform as it exists today and in the future.
What emerges from that format is something more meaningful than a list of projects or experiments. It’s a clear view into how we are rethinking the way our platform is built, and how that translates into better outcomes for our clients and our teams.
Supporting the realities of modern investment portfolios
Investment management today is defined by complexity. Portfolios span public and private markets, cross borders and incorporate a growing range of instruments and structures. Expectations around reporting, transparency and speed continue to rise. Meeting those demands requires a platform designed to handle complexity from the start. At Demo Day, that came through clearly.
Our teams are continuing to evolve the underlying data models that support increasingly sophisticated portfolios. These investments may not always be visible on the surface, but they are critical to supporting our clients with modeling, analysis and reporting on complex portfolios with accuracy and consistency.
At the same time, there is a parallel effort focused on the infrastructure that powers the platform itself. By standardizing how services are built and deployed, our R&D teams can move from idea to production far more quickly than in the past. What once might take months of setup can now happen in minutes, allowing teams to focus on delivering functionality rather than managing complexity behind the scenes. For investment professionals, that translates into a platform that keeps pace with the markets they’re operating in and evolves alongside them.
Scaling financial operations with existing resources
As financial firms grow, operational complexity tends to grow with them. More assets bring more data, more processes and more manual work to keep everything aligned. A consistent theme across Addepar R&D Demo Day was how we help clients scale without adding that operational burden.
Advances in automation and AI are changing how data is onboarded and managed across the Addepar platform. Teams demonstrated their ability to interpret financial data across diverse document formats, automating the extraction and categorization process for direct platform integration. This innovation significantly minimizes manual intervention and optimizes core operational workflows.
Making intelligence practical and reliable
AI continues to shape conversations across the industry, but its value ultimately depends on how it is applied. Our R&D team is focused on intelligence that works within the context of real portfolios, workflows and decisions, grounded in Addepar’s trusted data foundation and client trust.
Across Demo Day, we saw how AI is being applied across the platform in ways that support these requirements. The demos highlighted a wide range of benefits, from accelerating development workflows and improving code quality, to compressing vendor daily price revisions to seconds, to generating up-to-date feeds documentation from the source repository. Together, they reflected Addepar’s broader approach to AI: applying leading models in the right places, on top of Addepar’s trusted data foundation and within workflows built for investment complexity.
Product, design and engineering teams also demoed multiple widgets for data visualization that help in-house designers create faster. These enhancements save us valuable design and engineering time as a company, allowing us to scale and produce consistent results more rapidly.
This also streamlines how new capabilities are delivered to clients. A more consistent foundation means faster time to market and a cohesive experience across the platform.
Investing in how we build at Addepar
While Demo Day highlights what we are building, it also reflects how we build as teams.
The event is intentionally structured to encourage openness and collaboration. Teams present early ideas, share progress and invite feedback from across the organization. The emphasis on live demos creates a level of transparency that helps surface both strengths and areas for improvement. That environment supports a culture where experimentation is encouraged and learning is shared. It allows teams to iterate quickly and build on each other’s work, rather than operating in silos. Over time, that approach compounds. It leads to better solutions, stronger alignment across teams and a platform that continues to improve in meaningful ways.
Looking ahead
We are continuing to expand R&D Demo Day as a global program, with upcoming events planned in New York City and Pune later this year. Each event builds on the same idea, creating space for teams to share what they are working on and how it contributes to the broader platform. For clients and prospective partners, these moments offer a closer look at how we approach innovation and where we are investing for the future.
